Pritchett was referring to Tristan Tzara, but it hardly matters.  Young persons these past hundred years wake to the life and death of culture simultaneously.  Cheer the edifice or cheer the flames, as you prefer.  Meanwhile, plastic and omnivorous, western culture digests its own extinction as just another trope among infinite others.  Ouroboros never chokes.
