Marginalia, no.60

I should have been a roaring lion in the Judean desert; instead, I’ve become a lap-dog in Hervestehude.

~ Aby Warburg

A classic case of Prufrockosis, which may be defined as: The expression of wistful regret for the conditions of one’s existence and the impossibility of being something other than what one is; a sense that one should have been, for example, a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas, born in 1820, or a cowboy.
